Summary/Abstract: This article discusses some aspects of Transylvania's financial and banking elite in the late nineteenth and early twentieth Century. The first part focuses on some general aspects regarding the features of the Romanian financial and banking system in Transylvania, the stages of bank formation, their share in the banking system of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy. The author then analyzes some aspects of the financial-banking elites, their composition and specificity, the sources of recruitment. The case study refers to a sample of 16 banks considered to be representative of the Romanian banking system in Transylvania. The main governing structures of the banks are compared: the Steering Board and the Supervisory Committees.
