Summary/Abstract: The "Urum" people living in Ukraine, few in number, speak in a Kıpçak Turkic dialect, and are of Orthodox Christian confession. Ethno-logical studies have showed that these are not turkophone Greeks, as their names (Urum = Roman) may intimate, but Christian Turks, remnants of the once Kıpçaks. The Rumey people, who live in their neighbourhood, are totally different from them, and Christians with Greek origin.
