Summary/Abstract: This paper provides an overview of foreign direct investment (FDI) in Tanzania from 1980 to 2013. It also highlights trends in FDI inflows, reforms that have been implemented and challenges that are faced in an effort to increase FDI inflows into the country. The reforms that government implemented fall into two categories. The first category consists of policies aimed at creating a conducive environment for investment. The second category comprises of policies that directly target FDI inflows. An overall analysis shows an increase in FDI inflows in Tanzania since 1991, although inflows are still depressed.
