Summary/Abstract: Analyzing the corpus of twenty-three poetic texts thematically and genre-related to the Way of the Cross devotion, collected in the book by Vladimir Lončarević (ed.): Way of the Cross in the verses of the 20th century Croatian poets, this paper examines, from the literary-theological perspective, the presence of still fresh theological places (loci theologici) in the 20th century Croatian poetry. From the introductory synthetic view of the semiotics of the cross and the in-depth semantics of paradox, following the research on poetically expressive places with special emphasis on the sixth station, as well as on the deviations from traditional chronotope of folk devotion of the Cross, the focus of this reading of poetic Ways of the Cross is on the power and weakness of words when encountering the cross.
