Amicus certus in re incerta cernitur. The Memory of Prof. Jan Burian (1929 – 2011)

Summary/Abstract: In May 2011, to our regret, we lost a significant Czech and Slovak researcher in the history and culture of the ancient world, Prof. Jan Burian (1929 – 2011). His publications made him a name among Czech and Slovak scholars focusing on the history of antiquity. His name is also well known abroad, especially in Germany, Austria and Italy, and even in the countries of the former Soviet Union. A friend of Prof. Burian profiles his life and work in this article.
