Summary/Abstract: This work seeks to provide a picture of the Slovak community in the capital of the Kingdom of Hungary from the period between the conclusion of the 1848/1849 revolution and the onset of the social and political upheavals it brought to the suppression of Slovak national ambitions and all related activities in 1875. They culminated in the closing of Slovak secondary schools and Matica slovenská, as well as the collapse of the New School of the Slovak national movement which attempted reconciliation and cooperation with the Hungarian government
