Summary/Abstract: The purpose of the article was to identify and determine the validity of the factors affecting thesubjectively assessed level of knowledge and attitudes of selected aspects of sustainable developmentamong residents of selected Polish regions. Quantitative and qualitative analysis methodshave been used to acquire data and analysis thereof in the paper; among others, the synthetic measureof standard of living and a method of classification trees. An analysis of variables that affectthe knowledge and approaches to sustainable development has been conducted. Self-assessment ofknowledge and attitudes of social responsibility is one of the elements that provide the quality oflife. As independent variables there have been selected, among others, the standard of living andplace of residence. Based on the results it can be concluded that pro-social attitudes, which are fosteringsustainable development, too, are linked together. Population in rural areas compared withresidents of towns of different sizes do not differ significantly in terms of knowledge and attitudespresented in the aspect of sustainable development. The standard of living also proved to be nota significant variable.
