Summary/Abstract: An aim of the elaboration is to point out to the possibilities to use definitions of the ideal type according to Weber in surveys related to constructs on the example of virtual organisation. The article is of the methodological nature. The study contains a literature review and theoretical considerations. The proposed approach seems to be proper and it may be applied in surveys related to constructs which cannot be observed directly or indirectly. Often only the use of ideal types allows a sharp and unanimous determination of the notions being used. The ideal picture allows statement how much the reality approaches or strays from it. At the same time, the ideal picture, being an aspiration and determining the direction of development, needs not to be the desired one. The presented procedure opens the way to conceptualisation and operationalization of research of abstract notions. It forms the framework for discussion limiting an excessive complicity. The use of definitions of the ideal type occupies a special place in the area of social relations. There commonly take place theoretical constructs and, at the same time, an important role is assigned to practical meanings.
