Summary/Abstract: The paper outlined the causes, process, and repercussions of the global financial and economic crisis, focusing also on the pathologies and disproportions in incomes. Further it presented an analysis of the scenarios to overcome the financial crisis that were created in the USA and the European Union. The next part of the paper discussed social and economic situation of Poland against the background of global tendencies. In its final part, the paper presented an analysis of challenges of the 21st century in Poland, and in the global dimension, sharing some conclusions in this area.
