Summary/Abstract: The first part of this work is an attempt to reconstruct the context of theory of science in relationto which Engel works out his biopsychosocial model. Then, an explanation of the biopsychosocialmodel is given. The third part explores the role content that can be derived from the Engelienmodel. Finally, some remarks are made, by which the Engelien paradigm is placed – in somerespects – in explanatory context
