Summary/Abstract: Makso sent a letter from Germany, three pages of fine thin paper, the letter was typed on a typewriter, there were no mistakes or typed-over letters, the paragraphs were precisely separated, the overabundance of commas was more suited to the German Rechtschreibung than the language he wrote in, though there were no diacritical marks, all is well and things are going better than expected, I’m doing really well for myself, living high off the hog, people would say, capitalism lacks scruples and is in many ways cruel, but contemporary Germany is a socialist state and it’s undeniably antinazi, unbelievably was underlined, of course anti-communism is ridiculous, and I don’t write this because of potential censorship, I assume that even in our country letters are no longer opened for review and possible enemy activity, but it’s ridiculous how indoctrinated people are, some of them naively believe that everyone in Yugoslavia lives in a kind of work camp, I think that our political emigrants are largely responsible for this image, they’re a paranoid little group, politically autistic, I really don’t know what keeps them going...
