TOMBSTONES IN THE AREA OF LUKAVAC MUNICIPALITY

Summary/Abstract: Tombstones (Stećci), Bosnian medieval gravestones, petrified witnesses of time, our most significant monuments of the cultural heritage of the Middle Ages. The specific expression of the cultural and socio-economic situation of the medieval period.According to the previous expert and scientific literature, area of Lukavac has a few necropolis medieval Bosnian tombstones (stećaka). Therefore, the current findings have suggested that this area is very poor with tombstones which would mean a relatively modest medieval past.This paper first gives a detailed overview of the current known and unknown knowledge in the literature and some field research of tombstones (stećaka) in the area of Lukavac.
