Summary/Abstract: The paper is focused on the historic development of the legal regulation of the fundamental human rights beginning with the Magna HartaLibertatumof 1215, the Bill of rights of 1689, the Declaration of independence of the USA of 1776 and the French Declaration of the rights of people and citizens of 1789 and the influence which these acts have on the whole development of the Republic of Bulgaria accentuating on the human rights.The notions of natural rights, human rights, rights of the citizen, collective and individual rights and freedoms. Special attention is paid to the characteristics of the human rights and the contemporary development in the light of the European Convention on human rights and the European social charter.
