Summary/Abstract: In this paper, the authors dealt with economic and military, and the strategic importance of the so-called. Southern Railways in the Austro-Hungarian Empire and its legal successor: the State Railways Directorate in Ljubljana, and the Railway Inspection of the Southern Railways in Slovenia and Croatia, already in the peninsula of the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes. They analyzed the historical significance of Austrian efforts to connect Austria through Bosnia and Herzegovina, Dalmatia with Adriatic ports and dilemmas regarding Hungarian demands, or wishes. They mentioned the archival agreement between Yugoslavia and Austria in terms of returning archival material, presented the archives of the Southern Railways, which is kept in the Archives of the Republic of Slovenia, and listed the material that was created during the construction of railway connections from Dalmatia through Sarajevo to the Imperial capital of Vienna, which is connected with the crossing of railroads across the Bosnian-Herzegovinian territory.
