Summary/Abstract: During the fourth week of September 2009 the picturesque vintner town of Pezinok became the venue for the First Joint Biennial SASA – CASA conference. The conference took place from the 21st to the 22nd of September and was organized by the Slovak Association of Social Anthropologists and its counter-part, the Czech Association for Social Anthropology. Sunday evening was reserved for the first arrivals. An informal gathering at the Preš restaurant offered a delightful ambience for relaxed chatter. Conference registration and arrival of participants took place on Monday morning. The conference itself started at 9.30 with the welcoming addresses of Martin Kanovský, the president of the Slovak Association of Social Anthropologists, and Zdeněk Uherek, the president of the Czech Association for Social Anthropology. In their short but witty speeches both presidents expressed their hopes for a happy course of the conference and for creating a good discussion and a cooperative atmosphere.
