Summary/Abstract: This paper presents the author’s opinion regarding the particularities of the identity crises in the Republic of Moldova within the wide and multidimensional context of globalisation. The identity controversies which grind the society at present are deeply rooted in the past of this historical territory. The difficulty of approaching the identity speech in Republic of Moldova results from the controversies generated by the Romanian identity speech related to the Moldavian identity speech, as well as from the “confusion” created in determining the pro-European or pro-Soviet political vector. On the whole, identity dilemmas in Republic of Moldova can be appreciated according to the attitude of the society towards the same identity components: national collectivity, name of the spoken language, attitude towards history, attitude towards the minorities, attitude towards the former “Soviet republic” and towards today’s Moldova and, of course, according to the “us-them” relation which is triple in the case of this region: Romania, Russia, Europe. Given that the globalisation is an inevitable and irreversible process, the country urgently needs to revise its foreign policy, as well as to cultivate some common values, cultural traditions, aspirations, feelings and national ideas, which secure civic identity.
