Summary/Abstract: The present research attempts to investigate and analyse the information gathered from unique sources regarding the evolution of the ethnic constitution of High School no. 1 for Girls of the Zemstvo from Bessarabia, in Chişinău town, between the middle of the 19th century and the middle of the 20th century. The research in this field has an important share in the overall investigations carried out in local and national history. The information supplied by high school history manage to clear up certain aspects regarding the evolution of identity, ethnic and social processes in the milieu of Bessarabian intellectuals from the 19th and 20th centuries. Also, the researchers can account for certain current states and phenomena concerning the ethnic problem which still exists in Republic of Moldova and continues to create dissensions, not only in the educational system, but in the issues of the contemporary society.
