Summary/Abstract: The history of the trumpet existing from the advent of this instrument to the current period is briefly presented in this article. The description reveals not only the technical changes of the instrument, but also the evolution of interpretative techniques which helped the enrichment of the trumpet repertoire over the time. Each historical period in the evolution of the trumpet is connected with both the improvement of the construction and the development of the repertoire, as well as with the eminent personalities who have remained in history thanks to their major contributions to the perfection of the trumpet performing arts. It is worth reviewing carefully the symphonic and operatic composers from several different periods, in which the trumpet played an important role in foreshadowing the character of the musical works.
