Summary/Abstract: Purpose – The aim of this paper is to examine the perception of external factors by enterprisesfrom Lubelskie region, especially those which have above average potential to become high-growth companies(small, relatively young entities).Design/methodology/approach – The paper has theoretical-empirical character. The review of literatureabout high-growth companies and perception of external factors was conducted. Data in empirical part, werecollected in a survey conducted among SME’s from Lubelskie region. The significances of differences inperception of external factors by enterprises in different age were examined with ANOVA and post hoc tests.Findings – The significant differences in perception of external factors were confirmed only partially. The significant differences were discovered for “adult” and “old” enterprises and they apply to infrastructure, access to capital and market conditions. Enterprises between 5 to 15 years old evaluate those factorsmore critically, which may have a negative impact on their high-growth potential.Originality/value – In Poland, there is a lack of research which combine enterprises’ perception of externalfactors with their high-growth potential. This paper also introduces context of Lubelskie region, which is indire need of finding economic stimulus which can break the stalemate and set it on to the grow path.
