Summary/Abstract: This is an analysis of one episode of M. Proust’s novel „In Search of Lost Time“. The episode, named „Martinville towers“, describes the impressionist act of creativity based on impression and its realization. But there is no necessary relation between the impression and its realization. Impression as a source of creative act is the essence of Proust’s idea. The article explores the theoretical bases of such an idea. From research it becomes clear that: 1) impression is neither regularity of experience nor impulse to realization; 2) realization includes two steps and a chronotopical interval between them; 3) the subject of realization is characterized not by creative will and method but by involuntariness and insistency of pure thought; 4) creation realizes impression but does not represent or interpret; 5) the chronological order of the creative act is not equivalent to the logical order; so, if the impression takes central place in one order, in the other it is only a sign of thought.
