Summary/Abstract: Bilateral relations between Brazil and Russia initiated in 1828, and expanded to the technical-military area in the post-Cold War period. In accordance with the theory of offensive realism, each of the two countries seek to increase their power and at the same time to satisfy national interests while cooperating. Russia has military technical expertise and is often seeking to sell its products, Brazil is seeking to enter the select club of great powers by obtaining know-how in the field of military equipment. Cooperation in this area highlights the difficulties created by the lack of a traditional cooperation combined with manifested good intentions, and currently seems devoid of consistent progress.
