Summary/Abstract: Every year in April and May a youth relay is organized in Yugoslavia to carry birthday greetings to the President of the Republic, Josip Broz Tito, from the Yugoslav people and youth. The Youth Relay is a unique event of its kind because of the numbers taking part and the length of the run. It is organized by the Yugoslav Youth Association and the Partizan Federation for Physical Culture, but in fact it becomes a great popular manifestation of which various sports and cultural programmes, rally celebrations, festivals and young people’s and children’s competitions all become part. As they pass through individual places, the relay runners are welcomed and seen off with bands and speeches and they are usually followed by groups of runners, cyclists, riders, cars, etc.
