The Concept of Artistic Creativity in the Traditional Chinese Aesthetics

Summary/Abstract: The peculiarity of Chinese concept of artistic creativity is the object of comparative analysis in this article. The analysis reveals peculiarities of Chinese artists’ approach to creativity process caused by the influence of Confucianism, Taoism and Chan teachings. It focuses on various internal and external factors of creativity: psychological and pharmacological preparation, methods of consciousness concentration, spontaneity and madness in search of harmonious unity with nature. Special attention is given to the usage of hallucinogenic substances and alcohol.
