Summary/Abstract: The study is the first to make parallel portraits and typology of two of the dominant dailies in Bulgaria in the period between the Two World Wars – Utro (Morning, 1911–1944) and Zora (Dawn, 1919–1944) newspapers. This is done on the basis of as many as possible components from their: programs, structure, authors’ works, design, genre characteristics, caricature, photography, using literary reading, advertizing. The author also touches on the problem of funding. The specificity of both newspapers is analyzed through the particular event covered by them in progress - the debates on the draft press law from the summer of 1938. Basic professional and ethical standards, self-regulation, the issue of the media ownership are problematized in historical perspective - still topical issues for Bulgarian media today.
