Summary/Abstract: The influence of education and science is growing in the modern society. Therefore, it is very important for the scholars, the academic stuff and the private companies to have an objective guide concerning the education quality at the universities in the world. The World Universities Rankings give exactly this possibility for comparison and assessment. Nowadays, three rankings stand out as very influential and trustworthy in regard to the best universities in the world. The first one is The Academic Ranking of World Universities prepared by the Shanghai Jiao Tong University. The second one is the Times Higher Education World Universities Rankings, which is made by the British weekly magazine Times Higher Education. And the third one is the QS World Universities Rankings prepared by the British company Quacquarelli Symonds. The first top 10 universities in these rankings are usually based in the United States or in the United Kingdom. According to many researchers, this phenomenon is due to the growing influence of the English language as well as some imperfections in the methodologies used for the preparation of the rankings.
