Summary/Abstract: In the course of the last five years there have been essential changes in the volume and composition of Yugoslav imports of consumer goods. From a predominant importer of staple foods, Yugoslavia has become a major importer of industrial consumer goods. This development has been the result of several factors, primarily the rise in the domestic production of foodstuffs, increasing liberalization of imports of consumer goods through the exemption of certain products from import restrictions, and an increase in the funds available for imports of goods still subject to various controls.
