Summary/Abstract: This article deals with counter-factual practices in history and the historical novel (whose production has increased in the last few years, and which presents alternative versions of the past), as well as in areas where the humanities and the natural or exact sciences intersect with works of literary fiction that incorporate elements of science fiction. Based on a selection of mockumentary works by respected academics from various disciplines, Sugiera demonstrates the essential function that these practices have in undermining the objectivity of academic discourses and in highlighting the fact that knowledge is situated.
