Summary/Abstract: The article presents the position of the United Nations’ Secretary-General, who is the most important administrative agent of the United Nations. The paper touches on the most significant functions of the Secretary-General in the field of his activities, such as peacekeeping between the nations, undertaking diplomatic steps, serving an adminis- trative and diplomatic role. Also, the responsibilities of the Secretariat, which leads a service function towards the other United Nations bodies, have been mentioned. In the further part of the article several selected profiles of the Secretaries-General have been discussed. It has been signified that keeping the position is connected with being respon- sible for the United Nations’ future. It has been mentioned that the choice of the Secre- tary-General has not sometimes been easy and the election procedures have been ab- sorbing and diverse. The features of the Secretary-General, which should be compatible with the surrounding reality, have been named. It was highlighted that the Secretary-Gen- eral is not able to fulfill many needs of the organization and is not able to take care of solving all the burning problems of the United Nations. The process of delegating suc- cessors is a vital one. The Secretary-General must be aware of the imperfections in the organization functioning. In the summary, the role of the Secretary-General has been pointed out. The most important thing is that each Secretary-General should play a lead- ing role in shaping the international order and face the United Nations’ expectations.
