Summary/Abstract: At the moment Cohesion Policy is apart from Common Agricultural Policy the most expensive policy, which cost UE budget around 308 billions in years 2007–2013. In this article author analysis the scope of challenges to Poland in the context of absorption of funds granted to our country in the frames of cohesion policy. Author advances the thesis, that the target of cohesion policy – providing socio-economic sustainable development to Community and creation of innovative society based on knowledge – will not be realised without the economic success of Poland. This demands optimization of the usage of financial means awarded in the frames of cohesion policy and taking a number of reforms adjusting Polish economy and society to the standards standing in highly developed UE countries.
