Serbian Elite in the First World War

Summary/Abstract: The article shows the role and the importance of the Serbian elite in an important historical event such as the First World War. The work is based on the historical sources preserved mostly in the Archives of Serbia (Funds of General Military Government and the Ministry of the Interior). Various ways of engagement of the elite in several phases of the war operation was shown: during the period of defense, in refuge and during the occupation of Serbia. Main attention was paid on the period of the occupation and relation of the Austrian-Hungarian authorities towards the Serbian population, and thus to the Serbian elite.
