Summary/Abstract: The Beginning of the Catechetical School of Alexandria. The beginning of the Catechetical School of Alexandria is fascinating and enigmatic at the same time. The research of this theme starts from the assumption that Alexandria had a Christian community since the first century and that catechesis was made there like in the other cities of the empire. Later, in the second century, appeared another form of teaching and learning Christian faith, a form of that in history is known as the Catechetical School. The origin of the school is related to the name of two personalities from early Christianity: Panten, Clement of Alexandria`s teacher, and the greek apologist Athenagoras, author of Embassy for the Christians and The resurrection of the dead. According to the sources and the existing literature it seems that the first of the two would be entitled to wear the title of the first teacher of the school.
