Summary/Abstract: This article was inspired by a thought that the line is an act of thinking. It led the author to conduct analysis of the role and the nature of the line. This is useful to discuss the time, the space and the representation of the artist through the gesture. Considering the author’s interest in border areas of art, she analyses the above mentioned issue by the untypical medium for the matter of the line understood as a graphic sign. This medium is not painting or drawing – so characteristic for the line – but video art and performance. The author bases her analysis on the selected works by four Polish artists from the 1970s: Jarosław Kozłowski, Józef Robakowski, Józef Hałas and Edward Krasiński.
