Summary/Abstract: Bank secrecy has a rich history and it may have originated as early as in the Code of Hammurabi, according to which particular regulations allowed for the protection of information of bankers’ clients. Currently, the bank secrecy functions in most countries of the world. Its main aim is to protect our privacy in the financial circuit, mainly the data used for concluding transactions and contracts with the bank, so that our information was not given to the third parties. In the article, I will try to analyse the essence of the bank secrecy and And its functioning based on legal regulations, both in Poland and in the European Union on the example of selected states.
