Summary/Abstract: In the period between 1957 and 1987, Bulgarian censorship has banned several films for various ideological reasons; still, the major argument was noncompliance with the canons in art, imposed by the ‘sole’ political party and their leadership, i.e. the Central Committee of the Bulgarian Communist Party. In 1988, as a result of the political turnaround imposed by the USSR all the banned films were given a theatrical release one by one. Using documents, the article traces out the bumpy ride that these moves had until being premiered anew.
