Summary/Abstract: The article reviews some of the key issues connected with the relationships between participants in a navigation adventure and their regulation in English navigation law. The author analyses the most important institutes in maritime and inland navigation law, beginning from the ship, which has the central role in navigation law and which is accepted as a responsible economic unit. Economic independence of the ship and personification of the ship allow actions to be brought against the ship in order to achieve better protection for persons who suffer damage caused by ship. In addition, the author emphasizes on liability of carrier (shipowner or ship operator), general average, hypothec and mortgage, salvage and insurance. The author also concludes that it is important to unify maritime law and inland navigation law in order to achieve a high level of legal security for all participants in a navigation adventure.
