Summary/Abstract: The article discusses the contents of unpublished notes made by Bolesław Prus during his journey to Krakow and Lviv, entitled “Notatki z wycieczki po Galicji” (“Notes from Journey to Galicia”). This paper aims to broaden the diagnosis of Stanisław Fita, who analysed “Notatki…” in the 1960s. The article does not provide any new information about the reception of the notes in the press, as much as it places the text against the wider background of the writer’s oeuvre, especially his essay “Najogólniejsze ideały życiowe” (“The Most General Principles of Life”), which was published at that time. The interview given by Prus to Artur Gruszecki for the “Kraj” magazine provides a completely new interpretative context to Notes… The conversation between the two writers became the form of the text’s publication, which was originally meant for one reader only: the sponsor of Prus’ expedition to Galicia, banker Jan Gotlib Bloch.
