Summary/Abstract: For the long time, the position of the dollar as the global currency is stable. His domination began in 1994, contrary to the assumptions of the conference in Bretton Woods, the dollar was the only currency convertible into gold. USA fulfills all the conditions to the dollar was the reserve currency. Despite attempts to replace the dollar with the euro, renminbi or special drawing rights, dollar continues to play a significant role in the monetary system. Currently the biggest threat to the US dollar is the Chinese yuan. China’s economy is growing steadily at a rapid pace and has a positive trade balance. United States have opposite values. This is the reason why the USA will have to make major structural changes. Although the collapse in relation to the dollar is quite incredible, it is not impossible. Especially if one takes into account the history of monetary systems. The possible collapse of the present system may be associated with war, gold, chaos or all at one.
