Summary/Abstract: The article questions the influence of new visual media on the processes of contemporary theatre. It discusses the relationship between new media and actor’s body, a presumption is made that theatre art is one of the only ones that allows to reveal actor’s body in a non mediated form. The article discusses the change of the concept of image in the perspective of the transformations of visual technologies and the following appearance of new art currents. It analyses how new media influence the capacities of seeing, how speed technologies and psychology science change the perception of theatre images and theatre space. The first examples of visual media in the performances of the Modern times are discussed, as well as the relationship between mask and screen as media medium. Furthermore, contemporary European performances are analysed in order to define the functions of new visual media in the context of scenography.
