Summary/Abstract: The article deals with metaphors and sculptural themes in Norwid’s literary work against the background of 19th-century sculpture theory and practice. The analysed examples include fragments of three poetic works (Ziemia [Earth], Klaskaniem mając obrzękłe prawice… [With right hands swollen from clapping...], Polka) and one novel (“Ad leones!...”). It also outlines the main problem: why both the scholars studying Norwid’s works and poets define his style of writing as a sculptural style.
