Creative activity and religious experience. Historical aspect and present situation

Summary/Abstract: In modern theology once again there is a lively interest in a category of beauty. Today it is oftensaid that theology should follow the “way of beauty”. The strength of beauty stems from the fact that it has a very special character and that it is connected with a remarkable cogency. Undoubtedly, theologytaking an aesthetic point of view is much more definite and influential. Among the introductory questionsthat should be answered while discussing this kind of theology I would suggest taking a closerlook at the changes that occurred down the centuries in the understanding of a relation between creativeactivity and religious experience. The aim of this “parable” is to present the spiritual situation in whichwe are now. Thanks to that in a further part of today’s reflection we will be able to formulate certaincriteria which will serve as a basis for effective search for the way of beauty in theology, so that it couldbe the answer to real sensitivity of contemporary man who is caught in a particular spiritual condition.It can be argued that finally it is all about the spirituality of man in which the need for beauty and art ismanifested with all its obviousness.
