Summary/Abstract: The purpose of the work is to carry out an analysis of the methodological tools used by researchers in the field of social communications during the course of the dissertation research on the degree of the candidate of social sciences, specialty 27.00.03 - Bibliology, Library science, Bibliography. The methodology of the study involves using the systematic approach to the study of methodological tools of dissertation research,which is realized using methods of analysis and synthesis. Scientific novelty. The article continues the cycle of author’s research on the theory and methodology of contemporary librarianship. The results of the analysis of methodologies and methods of specific dissertation researches devoted to actual socio-communicative and informational and technological problems of the development of the library social institute are presented for the first time. Conclusions. The results of the analysis of the application of traditional and new approaches and methods of carrying out of modern library studies presented in the article show that the methodology of library science is in the active phase of its development. It enriches theoretical and methodological achievements of related branches of knowledge and uses a diverse arsenal of research methods and methods that allow us to present comprehensively the specifics of the functioning of the library social institute as an equal partner in the creation of a knowledge society.
