Summary/Abstract: On reading contemporary studies on Isocrates, one might think that Against the Sophists, considered to be the first text Isocrates published after opening his school, has somewhat been neglected, though it has lately attracted more attention. And indeed, this short treatise does not provide ample material for analysis. Nevertheless, a closer look may be useful, in two controversial issues in particular: the date of its composition and the groups attacked by the author.
