Summary/Abstract: Józef Korpanty was born on the 15th of February 1941 in Kraków. In 1954 he finished Tadeusz Kościuszko’s Primary School no. 30 and he started his studies in Bartłomiej Nowodworski’s Secondary School no. 1 in Kraków. From 1958 to 1963 he studied classical philology at the Jagiellonian University and in the academic year 1963/64 he began his work in the Classical Philology Institute of the University. He obtained Ph.D. degree in 1971, he qualified as assistant professor in 1977, as associate professor in 1986 and as full professor in 1992. For many years he remained the director of the Department and Institute of the Classical Philology at the Jagiellonian University. He was a mentor for seven Ph.D. graduates and several dozen of M.A. graduates.
