Summary/Abstract: This paper deals with trauma of identity in a historical novel by Husein Basic, CrnoTurci- san i jazija. The trauma of identity this novel depicts is caused by the decision of the Berlin Congress (1878) on the independence of Montenegro, which led to the mass emigration of Bosniaks from Niksic and other cities. A man, finding himself in the absurd position of someone who has lost his home, his country, in fact, his whole world, experiences psychological trauma, disintegration and loss of an individual identity. Transgression leads to identification with brothers facing the same tragic fate. The protagonist of the novel is Jasar/Jakub, a split personality who has telepathic dreams in which one part of his personality experiences the difficulties of life and trauma of the other part of his personality, and vice versa. CrnoTurci is a hybrid novel in a genre of the historical novel. The writer uses a fantastical discourse in order to create the plot of the novel. Psychological difficulties of a disintegrated psyche are shaped and expressed by waking dreams, visions, and other fantastical forms. Figures of memory are recalled from the space of cultural memory.
