Summary/Abstract: Sechenov Ivan Mikhailovich, a Russian scientist and thinker-materialist, creator of the physiological school, corresponding member, honorary member of the St. Petersburg Academy of Sciences. In the classic work, Reflexes of the Brain, he substantiated the reflex nature of conscious and unconscious activity, discovered the phenomena of central inhibition, summation in the nervous system, established the presence of rhythmic bioelectric processes in the central nervous system, and substantiated the importance of metabolic processes in the implementation of excitation. The works of Sechenov had a great influence on the development of natural science and the theory of knowledge.
