Summary/Abstract: The trial of Rudolf Slánský and his alleged associates at planned overthrow of communist power in Czechoslovakia was a carefully designed theatre and similarly as other political trials in the 1950s a success to a large extent depending on the media image. Media in socialist Czechoslovakia borrowed language of official communication when reporting about the trial. At the same time, they actively helped with sketching a story of almost heroic fight between Gottwald headed Communist Party and alleged malice of defendants. The construction of moral panics, searching for internal enemy and consistent differentiation of groups of us and them is an integral part of disruption of ontological security together with following consolidation of internal cohesion in the state. The aim of this work is to summarize how contemporary media informed the audience about the trial and how it helped with getting support from citizens. Extensive material is processed by grounded theory method.
