Summary/Abstract: The translation of legal terminology involves not only a literal process, but also an investigation of the content of a certain concept. The paper will analyse some clarifing examples: 1) ”assault” cannot be translated with its usual correspondent, the only pertinent one, strangely as it might seem, being ”amenințare”; 2) ”duty of care” cannot be translated by ”obligație de grijă”, the proper construction being ”îndatorire de diligență”. As a rule, the translator or the interpreter must always ascertain the meaning of a legal concept before using it in translation.
