Summary/Abstract: The present thesis aims at identifying and presenting the specificity of the French literature for children in the 19th and 20th century, the authors and works which marked this period. In the introduction we intend to trace and highlight the characteristic elements of the French literature for children during the mentioned period as well as the formative and informative role of the texts we will refer to. The second part will bring into the limelight the characteristics of the French literature for children in the 19th century, the topics it approached, the writers and their representative works. The third part is reserved to the presentation of the defining elements of the French literature for children in the 20th century, the authors and some of the reference works. The conclusions show the importance of literature in shaping the child in relation to the society he/she is living in.
