Legal Aspects of Chaplain Services in Catholic Church Schools in the Czech Republic

Summary/Abstract: The article deals with the legal status of the school chaplain in church schools in the Czech Republic. Based on an analysis of secular school legislation, which does not regulate the activity of the school chaplain, the author presents three possible legal regimes of school chaplains’ activity, depending on the basic labour law relations with legal subjects pursuing activities of a school. The article deals with a question of legislative limits for typical forms of pastoral work by the school chaplain. The author concludes that it is necessary for the school chaplain to obtain the status of pedagogical staff member, which is a prerequisite for the full development of his pastoral service.
