Summary/Abstract: The first part of this article is an attempt to outline the educational situation of the Ukrainian language in Poland not only as the language of a national minority, but also as a foreign language. The Polish like to learn foreign languages, including the languages of their neighbours, the Russian and Ukrainian languages. Does a close genetic relationship help or rather it is an obstacle to an effective language acquisition? In the second part of the article, based on the most common errors made by the students, the factors conditioning the process of acquisition have been highlighted.
